Introduction

Industrial applications for analytical instruments is a wide and diverse field – the instruments being used to analyse materials and determine the composition of the gas, solid or liquid in question.

This course focuses on the needs of the oil and gas industries and the types of analytical instruments that are in use for measuring pH, conductivity and hygrometry as well as gas chromatography.

Objectives

1) Specify analytical instrumentation systems for the measurement of composition in oil and gas streams

2) Identify a large number of industrial analytical measuring instruments

3) Describe the construction and operation of the most important analytical instruments

4) Be able to conduct the following types of measurement; pH, conductivity, hygrometry, and on-line chromatography

5) Implement procedures for testing and calibration of analytical instruments

6) Troubleshoot and identify problems with instrumentation systems
