Cementing Technology Course - 5-8 Days - Call us on +44 (0) 1443 223544 or Contact Us
 |
Please note: These courses are NOT public courses but are designed for delivery within organisations(worldwide). |
Introduction
It is imperative that everything possible is done to ensure that the cementing design and execution is fit for purpose and that drilling supervisors and tool pushers etc can tell when a plan has errors and could fail. The instructor delivering this course has a lifetimes experience in the oil and gas industry and will relate real examples to the theory and calculations ensuring delegates have a sound understanding of the course objectives.

Objectives
1) Differentiate between the environmental conditions facing the drilling engineer when involved in a) jack-up rigs and platforms b) drill-ships and semi-submersibles
2) Describe the different types of cement and additives available
3) Explain the considerations that are taken into account when deciding upon the type of cement to be used in a particular situation
4) Carry out calculations to determine the hydrostatic pressure and capacity for given bore examples while considering pressure differences resulting from variations in cement density and temperature as well as depth
5) Explain the effect on the casing in the hole from considerations like the cement fluid “weight in air” and “weight in fluid” 6) Calculate the cement volume required for cement fills of the annular space, both lead and tail
7) Calculate mix fluid and additives
8) Calculate the required capacity or dead volume of the rig pits for containing the cementing mix (water/fluid)
9) Devise and use Excel spreadsheets to calculate the values previously referred to and found by “pencil and paper” methods
10) List and explain the additional technical considerations necessary for well abandonment including liner cementing and plug and abandon cementing
11) Devise cementing plans and calculate volumes etc required for given examples of plug and abandon situations
12) Develop Excel spreadsheets for plug and abandon examples and demonstrate the ability to change parameters and interpret results for different scenarios
Who is the course for?
For new entrants into the oil and gas industry. Team leaders, Drilling Supervisors and Tool Pushers who want to be confident about there ability to check software generated solutions to cementing designs.
