Introduction
The petroleum industry, conducts all exploration and production activities, provides essential petroleum products that are used in all sorts of our presents standards of living.
The activities of finding and producing petroleum however have great impact on the environment, and the greatest impact arises from the release of wastes into the environment in concentrations that are not naturally found.
These wastes fall into general categories of produced water, drilling wastes (formation cuttings and drilling fluids), hydrocarbons, solids contaminated with hydrocarbons, contaminated water, and a wide range of chemicals.
